Why Egypt?

There is a saying, so the Egyptians tell me, that once you have drunk from the waters of the Nile you are destined to return.

I have been travelling to Egypt for almost 30 years now, so I must have drunk long and deep from those waters in 1980.  What brings me back?  Many things.  Of course there is the work, the study, a long ago but now defunct marriage to an Egyptian man, the curiosity of the community spirit that is Islam.  But what really brings me back, and I suspect a lot of other “repeat offenders” as well, is the energy.  There is something about Egypt that enables you to reconnect to the natural rhythms of life ... IF YOU ALLOW IT.

On our trips, this does not mean travelling in luxury coaches, staying in five star accommodations and being shepherded quickly from site to site.  Yes, you can comfortably see Egypt this way, but Egypt is a country best done slowly and in the right spirit if you want to feel the rhythm.

This is what my husband, Michael, and I offer you ,,, the chance to experience the natural rhythms of Egypt.  We try to give you time and flexibility.

We travel to Egypt each November.  The trip we put together uses a combination of hotels and travelling modes.  The hotels will vary from 3 star to small family run hotels, to unique eco-lodges in Nubia and the desert (Siwa).  Of course we travel up the Nile taking in all the sites from Cairo to Abu Simbel.  We also highly recommend a desert safari of four days/three nights camping bedouin style through the dunes of the western desert to the beautiful Siwa Oasis where a wonderful eco-lodge and hot springs await you.

A minimum of six is required and an absolute maximum of twelve.  If you have a group who is interested we can tailor the trip to your needs and these needs can be many and varied. This includes “meditation” tours to some of Egypt’s ancient pilgrimage sites.  We can also organise a trip at a different time of year if you have a group willing and able.

Many people actually want an academic tour, some just want to soak up the atmosphere, perhaps you are more interested in Islamic art and architecture, are you after adventure “explorer-style”, do you want the chance to connect with the local cultures or are you interested in the Christian pilgrimage sites and early monasteries?  Egypt is the country that almost has it all!  And we can tailor your trip to suit your particular needs, with me as your guide and Michael as your host.

Testimonals

If you are looking for an experience that puts you in touch with the locals and gives you the confidence to come back and see this wonderful country on your own, then this is the trip for you.  As a young person, Jann has instilled me with confidence.

Thank you for the time spent in Luxor.  Your archaeological experience really made Ancient Egypt come alive for me.  And your local stories were most entertaining!

                           Jonathon T, USA..

How wonderful to find ourselves so often at the right place at the right time.  To have Valley of the Kings all to ourselves was an experience I will never forget.

If ever you hear her say "trust me" you know you are in for an adventure.  Be warned!

MY REPLY:  Thanks Paul!!

To be in the desert and have someone know the starlore, to be able to weave the constellations around Ancient Egyptian history was really special.
