Why Astrology?

My journey into astrology is a personal one.  Many of us have had our setbacks and difficult times.  We may have felt on occasion as if we were lost at sea and unsure of our direction.  I am no exception.

In my darkest hour a tiny voice within told me to go outside and look up.  What I saw was what seemed to me to be the perfect and enduring nature of the heavens.  I wondered if I could ever reach such perfection.  There seemed to be a sense of purpose in the way the planets moved through the constellations.  I was later to learn, during my university studies, that I was following in the footsteps of Plato, and others in antiquity, who had urged people to do the same thing.

And so my formal study of astrology began.  It was, and to this day remains, the most rewarding and enriching journey of my life.  “Know Thyself” is an ancient dictum.  By applying the principles of astrology I began to understand myself.  I could see the behavioural patterns that were holding me back and I found the strength to face my demons and move forward.

I now wish to share my experiences in life and my knowledge of astrology to help others come to truly know themselves.  I believe that this is the first step to understanding our place in this wonderful world and the people we share it with.

A natal chart (or horoscope) is a map of the sky that shows the precise locations of the Sun, the Moon, the planets, and the zodiac signs at the precise time and place you were born.  Your natal chart is unique to YOU.  Very few people would have exactly the same chart.  It is therefore somewhat like a fingerprint.  A fingerprint of your potential for this life.  You can use your natal chart as just another tool to come to know yourself better and perhaps understand why you act/react the way that you do.  Only through truly understanding yourself are you then able to gain the freedom to achieve your highest potential and destiny.

People often ask the question of fate versus free-will.  While I believe the chart represents a blueprint of your life, it does not mean “everything is written”.   Far from it.  Because there will always be human free will.  You can do anything you want whenever you want.   But because “free will” will always override your chart potential, an astrologer will not necessarily know how certain planetary line-ups are playing out in your life until they meet you.  Life is a series of choices.  With the use of astrology, by understanding the particular cycles and rhythms in your life at any given point, you will become empowered to make better choices in your life.  As a consequence astrology is a discipline, in my view, which can only make your life richer.
